hidden homage

the first inked (and cropped) panel of issue 4. i love drawing shelves full of books, which doesn't mean i'm fast at it. this probably took an hour to ink. but it's one of the ways to sneak in hand lettering in the pages! the homage bit is too obscure- maybe two people will see it.

i guess it's two thick books on upper shelf with numbers 1 and 2?
but i don't know what they are.
nice approach to chasing deadlines, btw. : )

nope, not the two books...

Could it be the mask in the middle?
Made me think of both Christman's Sandman and Toth's The Fox.

If not, a hint is welcome. :)

good guess, although it's from something else. now probably only one more person can recognize it.

it's not really that important, just fun =)

Is it on the top shelf the word RAW. A reference to the comics anthology magazine edited by Art Spiegelman.

that one's actually Prometheus rising by Robert Anton Wilson- a very good book.

Is it the Monkey's paw? As seen in The Simpsons, series three... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Monkey%27s_Paw

tonci said...

the paw is actually a plot point in issue 3, so it's not that hidden...
as i said, too obscure! =)

Gilgamesh, by Koch, any chance it's that? There was a comic-book by that name a couple of decades ago, 'though I can't recall whose the author was.

andres- there's a couple of real books there, but that one's completely made up. i think.
