keep on moving

OKAY! the damn thing almost died on me but i managed to fix it somehow. it repeatedly wouldn't 'publish' the blog files, and the only solution was this. the blog is now hosted on blogspot (update your links), which will probably mean it'll have downtimes here and there, but i hope it'll hold. i manually copied all 34 posts - so nothing was lost. on the other hand, i have a good piece of news - the comments now work properly - use them well.

first pic is this character i'm trying to work out, the other one was drawn not to forget the neat tattoo i saw on the way to the class. straight marker too, made me feel good =)

for the next 30-ish days i'll be drawing a comic on scuba diving. 20 pages of pencils, inks, lettering and color. sounds like a lot, and probably is, but it'll do lots for my selfconfidence if (when!) i finish it. and there's some 15 pages of comics on the side to do, too. it'll be a very, very short month. this pic was done last night, before sleep. trying out the size, literally, with very little care about reference.

last night i was reading this new chaland book and thought for myself- i should do kids' illustrations like this. so i did this as a quick test, and enjoyed it a lot! colored in the morning with colored pencils.

inked this last night, inbetween writing things, and tried out the new font in the second pic. seems to be working properly. the small guy in the third pic was drawn while watching ''atraksion'' by raoul servais, and measures some 4 cm, that's probably why i like it.







after i pencilled this last one, i realized there's a very similar scene in the book, but it was too late (3 am or so) to go back. so there.

nasty habit...

of drawing in bed... till 3-4 am. slept 4 hours, feel wonderful today.

wouldn't it be nice if i posted every day? =)

...or "how to destroy a sketch". quick ink, quick color. the blue i used, when photographed, registers wildly off, so i had to desaturate the whole thing. also, should've used better paper, as this cheap bristol buckles instantly. i inked after the color, it's a miracle that that part looks remotely ok. ah well. back to the drawing board. time to draw some more complicated stuff.

edit: now that i compare the one on the screen and the one on the paper, the paper one looks much better. maybe a scanner would do better than this camera.

i'm at home atm, no scanner. had to take a photo of it, hence the crappy quality and gray corners. i think i'll go color this one now and post it later in the day if it turns out anywhere decent.

there's something about the legs here that i like. maybe it looks a bit like the early terry and the pirates stuff, a strange pose like one of pratt's characters... dunno. (if i had thought about it a bit, i would've put one leg through the hatch, made it a nice idea for a pulp-ish cover...). anyways, published the post from yesterday- there was something fuzzy with the server, but works fine now. cheers

in a crappy mood today, for no particular reason. been too long since last time, probably. so i read some comics, scanned some stuff from last week, and even made some new stuff, like these sketches for a possible sci-fi story:

this stuff was from class yesterday, which was a bit on the boring side so i doodled. there were two pages but i forgot to bring the scan of the other one so i'm a bit pissed off at myself now. (angry crappy mood-)

about... 6 months old. i'm working out some stories, hopefully something will form. got a few old stories that might work with a bit of work on them- been thinking about putting some 'normal' comics online, on the site. wrote about it a couple times on the site, but never got around to actually doing it. this time it might. we'll see. working on a magazine so i'll have to work out some stories anyway.

few weeks back, around 4 am i was messing with brushes - it was a long session of some 8-10 hours - and i just slapped this on the paper. everybody seems to like it and it's probably the rawest thing i ever put to paper.



and last night i was drawing until 3am again, even though i have some classes in the morning and am in fact late (writing this floor below my classmates, who're working). did that shaving machine benz for the new splash pic, some random doodles. also found a few things i didn't post before.



also found this - i copied this from a drying blackboard about a year and a half ago. for me it's mesmerizing. these patterns can be incredible.


and for last, lookit me, such an artsy fucker, inking a cover with a crappy brush...

ho hum

hello there everyone. this blog will effectively replace the site very soon, as it's much easier to post stuff from anywhere (and that's where i usually am). this has been a strange and wonderful week, and it's actually scaring me. it'll balance out with college starting, i guess. gotta get up at 7 tomorrow. no more toth at 2 am. no more lying around in shorts at noon, watching zeburaman... anyways, stay tuned, i'll try and post stuff.
